Happy Friday loves! So, today I thought I would share with you my top tips to consider when choosing the perfect foundation for your skin type. Since we all know, foundations come in many different formulas and types, and the key to finding the perfect foundation for your skin is to know your skin type. There are a few factors to consider when you’re choosing a new base such as coverage, the benefits you’re looking for, the longevity and the finish of the foundation.
Coverage | The first thing you need to consider is what kind of coverage you want. Coverage ranges from very sheer to full coverage. Sheer coverage gives you the no-makeup look and is quite transparent. It can blur out minimal imperfections. Medium coverage is slightly transparent, covers small blemishes and freckles. Full coverage is maximum coverage which gives you the flawless look, and it covers literally everything. So it all really comes down to whether you want a no-makeup look or you want an exemplary look!
The Finish And Formula | Next is, choosing what finish you want. There are matte, natural satin, and dewy, radiant shine. Matte foundations give a very velvety finish, covering pore and hold the shine very well. Natural Satin foundation gives you a nice balance between matte and dewy, radiant shine. Radiant shine foundations as its name suggests gives you a lot of glow!
If you want extra benefits such as skincare benefits or if you want long-wear foundations. So it’s important to know what texture and finish you want.
Along with the finish of your foundation, the formula is important too. I prefer to opt for a matte base. Finding a foundation that matches your skin tone, type and taste are all important to building a strong base for the rest of your makeup.
Skin Type | I’ve had experience with every skin type over the years I’ve been wearing makeup. Finding a foundation to suit your skin type is the best way to make it look flawless, whether you have incredibly oily to dry. You need to know if your skin is oily, combination or dry. If you have oily skin, I would recommend staying clear of dewy and radiant bases; since your face already has a natural glow. If you’ve got dry skin, prepping your skin by hydrating it is the most essential thing you have to do. For dry skin, you need to find a foundation that doesn’t cling to dry patches because it’s just going to accentuate the dryness. Finding the right foundation according to your skin type will give you the most flawless base.
Skin Tone | The next thing is finding out your skin tone and it is one of the most important things you need to know when you’re buying a foundation. So, how do you know your undertone?
Well, it’s pretty easy! You just have to see the color of your veins. If you have blue veins, you have a cool undertone and should opt for a pink undertone in foundations. If you have green veins, then you’ve warm undertone and should opt for neutral or yellow undertones in foundations. Even though this helps, swatching is the best way to figure out whether a base matches perfectly. Just to be sure, you can swatch three shades similar to your skin color on your face or neck, and then blend with your finger and the one that disappears is your shade. Of course, you can always ask for help.
